Little Sophia is an independent, not-for-profit, inner-city Steiner/Waldorf kindergarten based in Abbotsford, Melbourne.
We provide a nurturing early childhood environment that nourishes the whole child and fosters imaginative play as a foundation for lifelong learning. Our work is based on the insights into the nature and development of the human being given by the Austrian philosopher and scientist Rudolf Steiner. Steiner advocated a holistic approach to early childhood education that nurtured the young physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and spiritual development. At Little Sophia we acknowledge and the individuality of each child and work to support each one’s unfolding physical, will, imaginative, and intellectual forces so that they may realise their full potential for the future. This is achieved through a rhythmically-structured, play-based curriculum in a homelike environment, connected
deeply with nature.
Little Sophia runs Nature Kindergarten and Home Kindergarten programs within a long day care setting, with high staff-child ratios, for children 3 to 6 years of age, and family playgroup for children from birth to 3.5 years of age. The kindergarten offers 3 and 4 year old and free kindergarten funding.
